Capital Punishment

Capital punishment is a right of all nations and a concept that every country should integrate in their constitutions. What is capital punishment? It is putting a condemned person to death. Every individual who breaks the law is guilty and should be punished, that is inevitable. Every crime should be treated accordingly, and as Mahatma Gandhi said "All crime is a kind of disease and should be treated as such." If you notice the wording of the quote, he said a kind of disease, and every disease has a special treatment. Every crime should be treated according to the purpose of the crime, the nature of the crime and finally the damages of the crime. Capital punishment should be left for the most heinous crimes alone, such as murder.

As mentioned, capital punishment should be saved for murders because murder is the one unforgivable sin and the only redemption for it is to take away the life of the murderer. If someone is lined up for execution, then they more than likely deserve it. They have caused a great deal of grief to the family and friends of the victim or victims, and it seems like the only way justice could be served is for the criminal to die. For the person to simply go to jail seems unfair. There they will eat three meals a day, get to watch cable TV, and befriend other inmates. They would live quite a decent life in prison and they don't deserve it.

Have you ever thought about whether the person next to you is a killer or a rapist? If he is, what would you want from the government if he had killed someone you know? You would want him to receive the death penalty! Murderers and rapists should be punished for the crimes they have committed. Having the death penalty in our society is humane; it helps the overcrowding problem and gives relief to the families of the victims, who had to go through hardships and depression in answer to the injustice done to them.

Some people take the neutral position that there is no right or wrong answer, that each opinion on capital punishment is valid in its own way. Opponents of the death penalty claim that sentencing a person to death does not change the reality of the situation; the harm already done simply cannot be fixed from a vengeance standpoint. You cannot bring the murdered person back by taking the prisoner's life. Proponents of capital punishment tend to defend their opinion mainly on two grounds: death is a fitting punishment for murder, and executions maximize public safety through incapacitation and deterrence.

In conclusion, we must have no mercy when executing a criminal, for he never had mercy himself when he murdered a loved one of ours. They are responsible for the actions they take, and should pay for the mistakes they have done, whether we like it or not, and whether we regret it or not. Mercy is not an excuse.
