You weren't in bed. There was no-one in your chair.

Through every window the white, full moon glared .
I shivered in the garden. Where are you, my darling?

I called out miserably: You will catch cold .
Waking, I let the daytime facts unfold.

Azi noapte m-am intrebat pe unde oi fi gasit sa dormi.
Nu erai in pat. Nu era nimeni in fotoliul tau.

Prin fiecare fereastra luna alba, plina, stralucea.
M-am cutremurat in gradina. Unde esti tu, dragul meu?

Am strigat in bezna, cu disperare: O sa racesti.
Trezita, am lasat ziua sa se intample.

Tremuram in gradina. Unde esti, dragul meu?

Am strigat deplorabil: O sa racesti.
La trezire, am lasat intamplarile zilei sa se iveasca.
