PROLOGUL (intra imbracat in toga, cu masca si pe coturni):
De-i spatiul curb ca mingea, ce in perete
Dac-o izbesti, iti sare-n piept — si astfel
Tot cautind pe altii, dai de tine...
Atunci si 'timpu-nehis in minge-aicelasi
Ramine secole, milenii lungi
Si zile, chiar din drojdia genezei,
Se-nvecineaza cu-ale tale clipe...
Stau secolele dupa gard, cu mina
Le atingi si respirind acelasi aer,
Aceleasi viziuni ai...
Toti de-a valma
Ne-mpleticiim parca-n aceeasi piasa,
Pe care inicercam s-o tot rescriem,
Dar replicile ni-s mereu suflate
Si tra'se-n pie-pit de-apuse generatii
Si vintul ce roteste-n veci pamintuil
Ne sufla sufletele... si le-ncurca...

(Intra Titirez.)

TITIREZ (facind citeva tumbe) :
Tu, aschie cu forme sincopate,
Lungind prologul, ne maninci din piesa!
Ca titirezul itotu-o sa se-nvirta,
Degraba veti vedea... Mai fac o tumba
(Mai face.)
PROLOGUL:
Ia seama, Titirez, batjocorind
Taina Prologului, greu epilpg avea-vei!
TITIREZ:
Prologul are-o taina ? S-o destainui.
(Isi smulge masca. Apare un chip de femeie.)
Femeie, cine esti, ca de uimire
Imi cade nasu-n gura... si-mi miroase
Vorbirea a coliva...
PROLOGUL:
Spurcata vorba! Te duhneasca dracii!
Sint Idele lui Marte...
TITIREZ :
Vai, ma clatin!
De ce-ai jucat prologul ?
IDELE:
Nu sint oameni.
De-acum prologu-i gata. Tine malsca,
Ti-o trebui la-nmormintari solelmne.
A ta va fi ia fel ca a lui Yorik.
Si zi-mi pe nume : Idele lui Marte...
TITIREZ:
Eu...sarut mina...plec…cinstita cobe!
(Aparte:)
De nu te-as mai vedea, ai creste-n ochii-mi.
(Tare, luind masca:)
Eu ies pe-aici... Sa nu vii dupa mine!
De-i spatiul curb, eu il masor cu tumbe.
Raspunderi mari incumbe-ne, incumbe.
(Iese, facind o tumba nereusita si speriata.)

Prologue:
If space be as curbed as the ball you hit
On the wall, it bounces back into your chest and this way
Always looking for others, you find yourself…
Then even the time captive in the ball – remains the same
For centuries, long millenniums
And for days, even since the drags of genesis
Comes closer to your time…
Centuries await behind the fence, with your hand
You touch them and you breathe the same air,
The same visions you have…All helter-skelter
We all stagger in the same play,
Which we all try to rewrite all over again
But the lines are always being prompted to us
Breath by gone generations
And the wind that makes the Earth go round
Blows our souls…and entangles them…
(enter Whirligig)
Whirligig (turning somersaults):
You, splinter with syncopated shapes
You lengthen our prologue, and cut short our play!
The whirligig will still be spinning
Soon you will see…I’ll turn another somersault
(he turns another one)
The Prologue:
Be aware! The more you mock the secret,
The difficult you make the ending!
Whirligig:
The Prologue has a secret? Let’s reveal it.
(he takes of his mask. A woman’s face appears)
Woman, who are thou? In my surprise
My nose fell in my mouth and
My breath smells of grave
The Prologue:
Wicked word! May the devils smell you!
I am the Ides Of March
Whirligig:
Oh! Me! I’m shaking!
Why did you play the prologue?
The Ides of March:
For the lack of people
Now the prologues is finished. Hold the mask,
You might need it for solemn funerals
Yours will be like Yorik’s
And call me by my name: The Ides of March
Whirligig:
I…regards my lady…I am leaving…mighty omen!
(aside)
If only I were not to see you again, you will look up to me
(out loud, taking the mask)
I leave this place…Do not come after me!
If the space were curbed…I shall measure it by somersaults.
Big responsibilities do not give us, give us.
(exits turning an unsuccessful and scared somersault)
