Ea este broasca testoasa
care a colindat o mie de ani
care tine o mie de ani in carcasa ei paminteasca
Si care, in sfirsit, a ajuns si la mine sa ma iubeasca.

Ea se urca pe mine
Ma colinda
uscior cu uscior,
grinda cu grinda.
Caprior dupa caprior.
Cercevea linga cercevea
Si geamlic linga geamlic
de ma uit si io la ea
ca gheseftul la matrapazlic.

Si io sint de colindat,
ca mindra de maritat.
Ca gardut de ocolit,
Ca ibovnic de iubit.

Prag dupa prag
clanta dupa clanta
Si zavor dupa zavor
Si berbant linga berbanta.

Matamii si io,
aici si colo,
picior de taranoi
dupa dulce-i piciorus,
piciorus-invirtecus.

Ea este broasca testoasa
cea vagaboanta si pierzatoare de carapace
care, dupa o mie de ani, in mine si-a gasit casa.
Sint nebun dupa ea,
ca motorul dupa chiulasa.
Si-n ea ma tot slobod mereu,
ca si dulceata in melasa.

She is the turtle
Who has wandered for 1000 years
Who holds 1000 years in her earthly case
And who, eventually, reached me to love as well

She climbs on to me
She roams me
Jamb by jamb
Beam by beam
Rafter by rafter
Sash by sash
And windowpane by windowpane
So that I look back at her
As the dog in the high weed

I am ready to be wandered
Like the maiden to be married
Like the little fence to be surrounded
Like lover to be loved

Threshold by threshold
Doorknob by doorknob
Bolt by bolt
Man by woman

I too can be scented
Here and there
Little foot of peasant boy
By her sweet little foot
Twisty little foot

She is the turtle
The wandering and shell losing one
Which, after 1000 years has found her home inside me
I am mad about her
As the motor if for the breech
And I often let go inside of her
As the jam inside the treacle.
