Fifteen feet

He fell out of the sky
slow as an ant down a window pane

the rusting tower which held water from the well
only 15 feet high

but half the struts were loose
and fifteen feet was enough

We stood round the awkward body
nothing happened for a while

then someone came out of the house
and shooed us away

Years later I went back
No one remembered anything

Etched on my mind –

midday sun over the tower
struts standing away like unwanted scaffolding
rust red as bauxite

Georgie bet you can’t climb up there.

Cinci metri

A cazut din cer
incet, precum o furnica pe un ochi de geam.

Turnul ruginit in care se inmagazina apa de fantana
nu avea decat 5 metri inaltime.
dar jumatate din suporti erau slabiti,
si 5 metri au fost de ajuns.

Ne-am tot invartit in jurul cadavrului
o vreme nu s-a intamplat nimic

Apoi cineva a iesit din casa
si ne-a facut semn sa plecam

Peste cativa ani m-am întors
Nimeni nu-si amintea nimic.

Imi staruiau in minte

soarele amiezii deasupra turnului
suportii desprinsi ca un esafodaj nedorit,
mancat de rugina.

Georgie, punem pariu ca nu poti urca pana acolo!
