I make tea from the water that you boiled
Before you left; use your special cup.
I choose this book because you read it last.
The fire I’ve kept in for days: these flames
Are still the ones you saw. The milk jug? Stet,
Because you left it there. I fool myself
With charms, connections, that should make you real
But punch your absence into every act.

I keep things too long; candles I won’t burn,
Logs, ditto, saved for feasts or rainy days;
The chances are tomorrow could be worse.
And now it is. I’ve kept you long enough.
I study to enjoy the chilly space
That closes round my hand instead of yours,
And walk on grass to watch the rising moon
Because you might be watching too. Because.

Legea palidelor despartiri

Fac ceai din apa ce ai fiert-o
Inainte de a pleca; il beau din ceasca ta.
Aleg acesta carte pentru ca e ultima
Pe care ai citit-o tu.
Nu am lasat sa moara focul
Ale carui flacari ti-au incalzit privirea.
Cana de lapte ? Tot unde ai lasat-o.
Ma amagesc cu farmece, visari, ce-ar trebui
Sa-mi te aduca mai aproape.
Dar iti resimt absenta in tot ceea ce fac.

Pastrez prea indelung unele lucruri:
lumanari ce nu ma-ndur sa ard,
busteni la fel, pastrati pentru ospete sau zilele cu ploi;
se prea poate ca miine sa fie si mai rau.
Si acum chiar este. Te-am retinut indeajuns.
Invat sa indragesc spatiul infrigurat
Ce se inchide-n jurul mainii mele,
in locul degetelor tale.
Si calc pe iarba spre a privi cum se inalta luna.
Pentru ca poate tocmai faci si tu la fel. Poate.
