And now I can’t remember if it was Daedalus or
Jennings whose metaphysics led him to
Locate himself with such precision
in his universe: building, road, town,
county, country, continent, hemisphere,
planet, galaxy - a tiny, living pulse against
the enormity of things, a living embodiment
of insignificance, purpose unknown, unless
to show we need no why and no because.
On clear, cold nights, when the stars come out
to play, their indifference convinces me that
I exist no further than the clothes I wear,
the crystal glass I clasp; and that is less than
the deep gold whiskey that scalds my throat.

Metafizic

Acum insa, nu imi amintesc daca a fost
metafizica lui Dedal sau a lui Jennings, calauzindu-l
ca sa se plaseze cu-asa mare precizie
in propriul univers: cladiri, drumuri, orase,
tinuturi, tari si emisfere,
planete, galaxii – un freamat surd, dar strasnic,
de-a curmezisul enormitatii lucrurilor, intruchiparea vie
a nimicniciei, cu un scop nestiut,
insa descoperit atunci cand nu ne trebuie "de ce" si "pentru ca".
In noptile senine, reci, atunci cand stelele rasar
ca sa se joace, indiferenta lor ma incredinteaza
Ca nu exist decat prin hainele ce ma imbraca,
Doar prin paharul de cristal ce-l strang in mana, iar asta e chiar mai putin decat
Whiskey-ul aramiu ce-mi frige gatul.
